For Dr. Gail Weingast, Education is Essential

Examining the current status of her career these days, it is clear that Dr. Gail Weingast is known best for her long and impressive stint as a radiology specialist at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she has been for well over a couple decades. Currently, she serves as the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging for that hospital, but there is a lot more to it, such as the fact that she has led the transformation of her radiology department into one of the best in the nation.

While Dr. Gail Weingast is quite prominent these days, the path to her current status as a leader in the field of radiology wasn't always a straight line. Obviously, she was not born with a calling to her become a great doctor, given that her education started in 1969, when not-yet-Dr. Gail Weingast Tufts University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish, not pre-med or biology. Something changed soon after, however, because she received her medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine in 1976 and officially became Dr. Gail Weingast MD.

Of course, to become a radiologist, a lot more education was needed, so Dr. Gail Weingast completed a series of internships and residencies between 1976 and 1983, all at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, Colorado, She then completed her post-graduate studies as a radiologist at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver from 1983-1984. Dr. Gail Weingast then practiced worked at several other hospitals in Colorado and another in New York before settling into her current position at Backus Hospital, where she’s been able to put four decades of experience to its greatest use.
